If your tween’s latest snack request came straight from TikTok, you’re not alone. From colorful smoothies to frozen treats and over-the-top drinks, many of today’s viral snacks for tweens have one thing in common: they’re just as fun to make as they are to eat.
One trend your tween may be requesting is the “drinkable snack.” Instead of another packaged snack grabbed on the way out the door, tweens can create their own customized snack by blending ingredients into something that is colorful and completely new.
For parents, viral or creative doesn’t have to be complicated. A nutritional drink, fruit, and a few favorite toppings can become an easy after-school snack in minutes.
Here are a few easy viral snack recipes for tweens at home that are fun while making everyday nutrition a little easier, too.
Why Drinkable Snacks Work for Tweens
Smoothies and other customizable drinks have an advantage when you’re looking for snack ideas for picky eaters: kids get to make them their own.
One child might love strawberries and bananas, while another wants cookies and cream. Instead of trying to find one snack everyone likes, start with a simple base and let each child choose their favorite flavors, fruits, and toppings.
Nutritional drinks can make customization even easier. For example, Carnation Breakfast Essentials® Original Nutritional Drink comes in multiple flavors and can be used as a base for a drinkable snack. Each 8-fluid ounce serving also provides 10 grams of protein, 25% of the Daily Value for calcium, 50% of the Daily Value for vitamin D, and 20% of the Daily Value for iron.
These nutrients play an important role in the rapid growth that happens during childhood and adolescence. Protein provides amino acids needed for normal growth and maintenance of body tissues, while calcium and vitamin D support developing bones. Research also shows that bone mineral accrual during childhood and adolescence increases the demand for calcium; nutritional drinks can help meet some of those needs.
A nutritional drink is an easy starting point when you want simple nutrition for busy families without taking the fun out of snack time. Here are a few ideas to help you get started:
1. Cookies N’ Creme Frozen Smoothie
The thick, spoonable smoothie is one of the easiest viral food trends to bring home.
Start with a chilled Carnation Breakfast Essentials® Original Nutritional Drink in Cookies N’ Creme flavor. Blend it with half of a frozen banana and a handful of ice until it is thick and creamy.
Pour it into a bowl or clear cup and let your tween customize it. Try sliced banana, crushed graham crackers, berries, or a sprinkle of their favorite cereal.

2. Caramel Banana “Milkshake”
Caramel and banana make a naturally sweet pairing that feels much more like an after-school treat than something parents planned ahead.
Blend one Carnation Breakfast Essentials® Original Nutritional Drink – Caramel flavor with one small frozen banana and ice. To lean into the viral aesthetic, drizzle a little caramel around the inside of a clear glass before pouring in the smoothie. Top with sliced banana and cinnamon.
This is also an easy recipe for tweens to make mostly on their own with supervision around the blender.
3. Strawberry Cheesecake Smoothie
If your tween loves the elaborate strawberry drinks filling their social feeds, try a simpler version at home. Blend a Carnation Breakfast Essentials® Original Nutritional Drink in Strawberry flavor with frozen strawberries, half a frozen banana, and a spoonful of plain Greek yogurt.
Pour into a glass and top with crushed graham crackers and a few diced strawberries.
For another version, try Carnation Breakfast Essentials’ Strawberry Banana Smoothie.
It’s an easy example of how creative snack ideas using breakfast drinks can turn familiar ingredients into something that feels new and colorful, while sneaking in extra nutrients.
4. Make-Your-Own Frozen Snack Pops
Not every drinkable snack has to stay drinkable. Turn any of the three flavors into frozen pops by blending the drink with fruit, pouring the mixture into ice-pop molds, and freezing until solid.
Try:
- Cookies N’ Creme + banana
- Caramel + banana + cinnamon
- Strawberry + mixed berries
You can also layer two different fruit mixtures for the striped look that makes so many trending snacks for kids visually appealing. For more inspiration, try these Breakfast Yogurt Ice Pops, made with yogurt, fruit, chia seeds, banana, and granola.
Let Tweens Take Over Snack Time
One reason viral food trends resonate with tweens is that food becomes something they can participate in rather than something simply handed to them. So instead of trying to perfectly recreate every viral TikTok snack for kids to try, borrow the part that makes the trend appealing: the colorful creativity and customization.
Set out frozen fruit, cereal, cinnamon, granola, and a few other toppings. Let your tween pick their favorite Carnation Breakfast Essentials® flavor and invent a combination of their own.
You might end up with a strawberry smoothie topped with crunchy cereal or a caramel-banana frozen pop combination that no one had thought of yet.
Fun snacks for kids don't need 15 ingredients or an hour in the kitchen. With a few shortcuts and a little freedom to experiment, snack time can feel exciting to tweens while staying manageable for parents.
